UCD released a report early this week of their researched findings on personal injury claims Ireland.
The report stated that up to 90% of Ireland’s public would seek the guidance of a personal injury lawyer if pursuing a personal injury compensation case in 2013.
The findings of the research report noted that the main reasons people would seek a legal representative when pursuing a case are as follows:
· 1. A lack of knowledge in terms of the personal injury laws
· 2. A lack of knowledge in terms of personal injury entitlement
· 3. A fear of insurance companies.
This comes as no surprise, when one considers the unfortunate number of accidents occurring on Irish roads day – in – day out.
Although the RSA’s most recent figures available show a decline in deaths on Irish roads, there is still an astonishing 380 road accident deaths annually, in excess of the 6,000+ road accidents per week. This is an excess of 288,000 reported road accidents a year.
Thus, there is at least this number of people every year seeking to make a personal injury claim, who are unsure of their rightsand the laws surrounding accident or personal injury claims: putting them at a potential risk of an unfair out of court settlement. Unfortunately if you choose to settle out of court and accept compensations, there is no come back in court, even if you have been awarded significantly less than the standard amount payable for a claim of similar circumstance.
